Five Large Animals in South Africa

Great The word “five” was born among the hunters of a bygone era to describe not the largest of the animals they hunted, but the most dangerous.

They are lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos. Each of these animals has a reputation for pursuing its attacker with intent to kill. Perhaps the most persistent is the buffalo that incessantly pursue his aggressor, making the hunting experience of life and death for hunting and the hunter!

All these mammals are found in South Africa, making it one of the most popular places for a holiday safari style.

In fact South Africa has embraced this rich wildlife heritage and welcomes visitors from around the world who come to experience the meeting of these magnificent creatures. Many of our hunting lodges offer luxury accommodation and facilities available for ‘bush’ holidays in the world.

The Sabi Sands Game Reserve in Mpumalanga province, for example, is probably the most exclusive game reserves in the country. In the absence of fences between the Kruger Park and Sabi Sands, wildlife roams free between the two reserves. Leopards are the main attraction, and these great creatures are so accustomed to humans that can even go hunting in an SUV. All the big five can be seen in Sabi Sands.

Other reserves and excel in the country where you can see the Big Five in South Africa, including the famous Kruger Park, Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces, the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in the North-West Province, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Natal Northern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Hluhluwe Umfolozi.

Visitors who are confined to the Cape region are often feel that they can not see the Big Five. However, there is a reserve of only 90 minutes from downtown Cape Town, Aquila, where you can see four of the top five. Self-drive or guided tours are offered by car from Cape Town – even day trips are possible, but it so desires, can spend the night in the accommodation made by calling 4500 hectares of unspoilt Karoo. The terrain is varied – from mountains and valleys to wetlands – ideal for game viewing, either in a 4 x 4 safari vehicle, horseback or even a quad. Aquila is home to four of the five large animals: lions, buffalo, rhino and the rare Mountain Leopard. It can also detect and giraffe and the hippopotamus not to mention herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and other males, more monkey, jackal, fox and bat ears.

What to wetlands, can expect to see many birds and personal life to complete the safari experience – all so close to Cape Town!

Those who can not travel far in the Eastern Cape – a pleasant day along the beautiful Garden Route – You can also visit the Big Five and other game in the Addo Elephant Park and Shamwari Game Reserve excellent – well worth a the visit for game lovers.

Safari vacation in South Africa is often considered incomplete without seeing the Big Five. Today most people are content to take pictures at home in live animals rather than skins and hunting trophies. However, hunting is legal reserves for those who feel the need.
